RIEGL LMS, Benaco: Feasibility study on laser scanning data as the basis for a virtual tour

September 19, 2024

The Art Museum Bonn was digitized by RIEGL as a feasibility study with the VZ-600i 3D Terrestrial Laser Scanner to enable virtual museum visits and thus support city marketing.

Thanks to the scanner's high scanning speed and long range, the feasibility study was able to capture the entire exterior data set, including the scans of the roof area, in an extremely short time.

The virtual tour was implemented by the company Benaco, which specializes in making laser projects available to everyone as browser-based 3D tours. A 3D mesh model was generated from the high-resolution point cloud, which enables excellent visualization and navigation through the data. This means that even non-experts can easily work with the project results. Info points integrated into the tour show the possibility of system and database integration.

Explore the possibilities in the virtual tour here.

The measurement and image data captured with the RIEGL VZ-600i proved to be excellent source material for the creation of such a virtual tour.
